  • Providence journalist William J. Kole has written a new book called In Guns We Trust: The Unholy Trinity of White Evangelicals, Politics, and Firearms that shows how fear has raised gun ownership among white conservative Christians—he said they own guns over four times more than other groups. He will discuss the book at 7 p.m. Oct. 14 at Riffraff Bookstore and Bar as he argues that more guns will not fix gun violence.  The Boston Globe

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Hasbro is moving its corporate headquarters from Pawtucket to Boston because it wants access to a richer talent pool—about 700 headquarters jobs will shift while Rhode Island plans to redevelop the former site to spark new economic activity.  The Boston Globe
  • Bryan Jones of the Rhode Island FFA Association said that high land costs—averaging $17,000 per acre—have made it hard for over 1,000 state farms to earn a profit even as local food demand has grown. He noted that tough economic challenges and minimal state support leave farmers at risk while debates over lab grown meat hint at future changes.  The Public's Radio

EDUCATION NEWS

The study reviewed 357 programs acquired between 2011 and 2022 and noted that high-investment states like Tennessee face heightened concerns—prompting lawmakers to question investor roles in public health.  The Boston Globe
