- ➤ In North Smithfield, the Fire Department responded to a dangerous TikTok challenge in which two teens poured gasoline on themselves and jumped off a nearly 30-foot train trestle into water—one 18-year-old suffered second and third degree burns while a 16-year-old was uninjured. ABC 6

- ➤ Providence’s NBC10 is set to take over ABC6 as Sinclair acquired WLNE-TV’s non-licensed assets under a shared services agreement — the change has resulted in layoffs and will narrow competition in our local TV market. - ➤ Trinity Rep in Providence is premiering Cold War Choir Practice by Ro Reddick at the Dowling Theater — a dark comedy that mixes espionage, cults, and a unique children's choir. - ➤ Bryan Jones, president of the Rhode Island FFA Association, said local farmers face hard times because land costs average about $17,000 per acre and there is little law support, making it difficult for them to earn a profit amid growing demand for local foods — challenges that threaten the future of farming in the state. - ➤ Governor McKee is trying to use over $10 million in opioid settlement funds to plug a bond gap for selling CharterCARE hospitals to a Georgia nonprofit that has not run a hospital before. - ➤ Plaintiffs affected by a July 2024 cyber breach of the state-run RIBridges system reached a tentative settlement with Deloitte after mediation and will file a preliminary motion by Oct 9. The breach, which exposed personal data of over 644,401 people, came to light in mid-December when cybercriminals Brain Cipher leaked the data online — the state is now set to update the system with a new vendor. - ➤ Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee announced Friday that insurers would cover COVID vaccines for all patients over 6 months old with no co-payments, coinsurance or deductibles to ensure access ahead of fall; the policy is based on recommendations by major medical organizations and took effect Friday. - ➤ Bishop Hendricken boys soccer beat North Kingstown 5-3 after a strong start that gave them a 3-0 lead and a hat trick from Jack Mefford helped seal the win.
