- ➤ On Saturday, the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals held its 23rd annual Paws in the Park at Goddard State Park in Warwick to raise funds for animal care and support shelter operations, featuring raffles, vendors, and a costume contest where dogs Dolly and Bailey won as Lilo and Stitch—a win that helps care for about 100 to 150 animals in shelters and foster homes. - ➤ Hundreds visited the Misquamicut Fall Festival Saturday near Misquamicut State Beach in Westerly during its 16th season, enjoying carnival rides and games as part of the event; the festival continues today—gates open from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. 10 WJAR
- ➤ The Tunnel to Towers Foundation hosted an event at The Preserve Sporting Club and Residences on Sept. 12 that raised nearly $35K for disabled veterans. A check for $34,888 was presented by The Preserve—marking a special tribute the day after 9/11. ABC 6
- ➤ Elks Tri-City Lodge 14 held a Jeep event Saturday that raised $2,000 for local veterans through its Rucking for Roofs campaign—over 40 Jeeps participated in the fundraiser. ABC 6

- ➤ Ruby-throated hummingbirds are beginning their southward migration from Rhode Island as colder weather approaches — Mass Audubon recommends taking down feeders soon to protect the birds' bills. The Providence Journal
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Rhode Island Cannabis Control Commission is accepting applications for 24 new retail cannabis licenses until Dec.29 — six of which are reserved for social equity applicants and six for worker-owned co-ops, while the remaining licenses will be available to general applicants. The state first legalized recreational cannabis in 2022 and plans to distribute the licenses evenly across six areas. The Providence Journal
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ On September 13th, the Rhode Island Department of Health disciplined six nurses for separate incidents that revealed unprofessional conduct; three nurses surrendered their licenses and the others received reprimands or probation for failing to follow safety protocols and proper record keeping + improper medication administration. - ➤ The URI Rams beat Holy Cross 9—7 after graduate Garth White kicked a 41-yard field goal with 2:23 left at Fitton Field on Sept. 13, improving their record to 3—0 for the season. Holy Cross led in the fourth quarter but failed to convert late scoring chances. The Providence Journal
- ➤ A Cranston man built a backyard Fenway replica so his father, who cannot walk well due to illness, can enjoy Red Sox games. The team invited the pair to attend the game today—providing front row handicap seats and meet-and-greets with players. 10 WJAR
