- ➤ Bally’s Corporation, a Providence-based casino operator, proposed selling its Twin River Lincoln Casino Resort for $735 million in a leaseback deal—similar to its previous move with the Tiverton casino—and said the plan will lower its debt pending regulatory approval. The Boston Globe
- ➤ Amazon has confirmed its 48-hour Prime Big Deal Days sale will take place on October 7th and 8th, offering major discounts on electronics, home goods, and toys exclusively to Prime members—Rhode Islanders can sign up now to begin their holiday shopping. The Providence Journal

- ➤ Brian Chippendale, co-founder of Fort Thunder and member of Lightning Bolt, spoke with Ian Donnis at his South Providence studio about the local underground arts scene—discussing his belief in the value of community creativity. - ➤ Every Brilliant Thing is a one-person play at Burbage Theatre Co. in Pawtucket that looks at pain and hope through a personal list of reasons to live—drawing the audience into an interactive experience. - ➤ Trinity Rep is showing the world premiere of Cold War Choir Practice, a play by Brown MFA playwright Ro Reddick directed by Aileen Wen McGroddy that uses a rear-projection screen and a shape-shifting choir to bring 1987 nuclear fears and Reagan-era optimism to life — the production runs from September 4 to October 5 — blending spy and family drama. - ➤ Brown students spent their summer working in the John Hay Library Undergraduate Fellowship Program—gaining one-on-one guidance from library mentors as they researched topics from medieval manuscripts to 19th‑century laundry. The eight fellows will present their original projects on Oct. 3 and build on skills that have supported their academic growth. Brown University
- ➤ Victoria Mealer-Flowers leads student-athlete development and community engagement at Brown while connecting local neighborhoods with campus initiatives — she returned to Providence in 2015 and now mentors students in both academics and athletics. Brown University
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The DOJ filed a lawsuit on Tuesday in federal court in Providence against the school district over its Educator of Color Loan Forgiveness Program that benefits only teachers of color—accusing it of excluding white teachers and violating the Civil Rights Act. The suit seeks an injunction to stop the program and any similar efforts. The Boston Globe
- ➤ Gov. Dan McKee announced Monday that RIPTA will receive $510,000 to fund on-demand transit in five communities, expand vanpool subsidies, and offer free bus passes—measures set aside for Rhode Island’s climate goals. The funds will be disbursed in November or December and will not be used for RIPTA’s operating costs. Rhode Island PBS
- ➤ Today leaders with the Rhode Island Coalition to End Homelessness will present new data on the homelessness crisis—reporting a 34.9 percent rise in the number of unhoused residents and limited shelter openings—at the WaterFire Arts Center from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. ABC 6
- ➤ A URI poll shows Governor Dan McKee’s approval rating is 29 percent among islanders; in a hypothetical four-candidate race, he leads with 18 percent, followed by Peter Neronha with 15 percent, Helena Foulkes with 14 percent, and Speaker Joe Shekarchi with 7 percent (more than 40 percent remain undecided). REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ A new housing report from the Providence Housing Crisis Task Force – a 40-page document – shows that rents in Providence increased 16 percent from March 2023 to March 2024 and that over 24,000 evictions since March 2020 led to a 35 percent rise in homelessness. The report – compiled by city councilors – will be given to the city council tomorrow as officials work to address the struggles of local families. 10 WJAR
