- ➤ A Rhode Island DMV official explained that when a leasing company sells a car only to its original lessee, the son-in-law must use a Tax & Title transaction—paying sales tax, registering the vehicle to secure a title, and then gifting it to complete the process. The guidance also requires a VIN check and proper DMV forms, which may take several weeks to complete. The Providence Journal
- ➤ Pawtucket Mayor Donald Grebien said Hasbro’s plan to move its headquarters to Boston next year is a loss for the town but not a surprise since many expected the change. - ➤ The RI Department of Health recommended that most Rhode Islanders over six months get the updated COVID vaccine today after analysis showed it could save thousands of lives—meanwhile, a CDC advisory panel tabled a vote on the hepatitis B vaccine and advised separating the chicken pox vaccine from the MMR shot. - ➤ In Rhode Island, over 1,500 callers reached the 988 crisis hotline in July—marking a 200% increase since its launch. Paid crisis counselors now answer calls 24/7 to provide quick, warm help and guide people to further support. Rhode Island PBS
- ➤ Census data from 2024 showed that 32,549 children lived in poverty, up more than 20 percent from the previous year; local advocates, including Rhode Island Kids Count executive director Paige Parks, say state lawmakers must boost programs for health care, housing, and food security—key supports for children and families.
