  • RI Parrot Rescue celebrated ten years on Saturday at its West Warwick facility—hosting an open house with flock tours, speakers, vendors, workshops, raffles and refreshments that highlighted its work to rescue, rehabilitate and place exotic birds in qualified homes.   • Farouk Rajab, president and CEO of the Rhode Island Hospitality Association, said today that the hospitality industry drives economic activity while facing challenges from taxes and credit card fees.  10 WJAR

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Rhode Island retired its longstanding research ship Endeavor in Narragansett on Saturday after nearly fifty years of service and more than 700 expeditions. Its replacement — the Narragansett Dawn — is expected in spring, leaving students without a research vessel until then.  10 WJAR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On September 19, the Providence Housing Crisis Task Force presented a 46-page report that recommends new rent control policies with a cap on annual increases based on a set percentage or the Consumer Price Index, 90 days’ notice for any increase, and penalties for rule-breakers. The report also calls for boosting housing and tenant protections, though some worry the measures could hurt future building—officials plan to gather feedback from various groups.  10 WJAR

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Gardening experts advise residents to water plants a day before transplanting to reduce shock and evenly water new seeds as the soil stays warm—dry conditions require extra care for both new and established plantings. Gardeners should avoid heavy pruning that may trigger new growth vulnerable to frost and can consider dividing perennials or marking spots for bulb planting before the cold weather sets in.  The Boston Globe

  • St. Raphael's player Aiden Fortes sealed his team's win against Central with a decisive interception — the play that changed the course of the game.  The Providence Journal
  • Brown defeated Georgetown 46 to 0 on Saturday at Brown Stadium as Qwentin Brown scored two touchdowns with a 49 yard run while the defense forced three turnovers and limited Georgetown to 183 yards. The win marked Brown's first shutout in 12 seasons and its largest margin since 2013 — a strong boost for the Bears' 2025 season.  The Providence Journal
