- ➤ R.I. AFL-CIO joined a court action on Monday, arguing that the EPA unlawfully canceled the $7 billion Solar for All program—designed to lower greenhouse gas emissions, save low-income families around $400 a year, and create union jobs—and that the canceled funds should be restored to support renewable energy efforts. The suit claims that the law allowed retention of funds already awarded, a move that undermines Rhode Island’s clean energy goals. The Boston Globe
- ➤ State Representative Robert Craven resigned as chair of the House Judiciary Committee — after renewed scrutiny of his past domestic violence incidents — and said he will remain in his North Kingstown seat until his term ends but will not seek re-election. The Boston Globe
- ➤ Rhode Island AFL-CIO and a coalition of homeowners, solar companies and nonprofits filed a suit in federal court in Providence on Monday, saying the EPA illegally clawed back more than $49 million from the Solar for All program — a move that the union said will cut jobs and drive up energy costs. - ➤ Providence City Council's ordinance committee meets tonight at 5:30 in council chambers to discuss changes to the Community-Police Relations Act — the proposals will redefine prohibited cooperation with ICE and mark schools and courts as sensitive spaces — and will hold a public comment session. - ➤ A Brown University study tracked 102 elementary school children and found most were not getting the recommended nine to 12 hours of sleep per night. The study showed children averaged 8 hours and 20 minutes of sleep while parents reported more than 9 and a half hours—Latino children slept less than non-Latino peers and experts urge steady bedtime routines. - ➤ Voting for The Providence Journal Girls Soccer Player of the Week is done online only and ends later this week, with last week’s poll showing Giavanna Marini received 66 percent of over 8,000 votes.
