CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Joseph Molina Flynn, an immigration lawyer whose license was suspended earlier this week after his office was raided in January, is now before the Rhode Island Supreme Court as he faces charges of allegedly taking thousands of dollars from his clients—his case is set to be closely reviewed by the court. 10 WJAR

- ➤ A North Providence man known for his standout homemade Halloween displays is back this year with a new Beetlejuice setup at his home at 32 Benjamin Drive—complementing his earlier Stranger Things and Five Nights at Freddy’s scenes. He spent hundreds of hours using recycled supplies to create his display and said he will take it down after Halloween. 10 WJAR

- ➤ A recent Auditor General report found 60% of Rhode Island child care centers had safety issues such as missing background checks and outdoor hazards—state funding remains low compared to other New England states. - ➤ Brown students and faculty from the Brown Rise Up group plan a protest in College Hill to ask President Paxson not to sign the White House’s Compact for Academic Excellence memo— protesters will tape their mouths shut and deliver a joint statement on their concerns about changes to financial support and admissions. - ➤ Providence city and state leaders are set to replace the dilapidated Gilbert Stuart Middle School with a new pre-K-8 school scheduled to open in September 2027—local opponents argue that preserving the historic building would cost $12 million less, but officials determined rehabilitation is not feasible. - ➤ At Brown, professors have strongly opposed a new 10-point compact from the White House that would limit free speech and restrict university actions—faculty say it is extortion and that the school would serve as an instrument of the state if it signs the proposal; Brown and other schools must decide by Nov. 21. - ➤ Portions of Thayer Street were closed on Thursday as crews worked on a water leak from Angell Street to Meeting Street—officials warned commuters to use alternate routes during the repair. 10 WJAR
- ➤ The Rhode Island Department of Transportation said its new structural health monitoring system has shown that Washington Bridge has normal vibration, movement, and strain in its first weeks of data collection. The system—composed of 200 sensors over 14 spans—will alert officials immediately if readings fall outside normal ranges as they continue to monitor the bridge while the new one is built. 10 WJAR

- ➤ Crispy Gài will open its first restaurant outside Maine in Providence by spring—Chef Jordan Rubin, who began his career in the city, said the fried chicken and Thai street food concept will add to Providence’s growing dining scene.
