- ➤ In a secret basement at Brown University, the private Graduate Center Bar offers an extensive list of cocktails, craft beers and unique social nights for graduate students, alumni and staff. - ➤ Brown University revamped Simmons Quad by adding a terraced amphitheater named the Stephen Sondheim Amphitheater and new accessible features that improve outdoor teaching and gatherings. The project, which began five months ago, was celebrated on Oct. 23 — marking a blend of historic design with modern campus needs. Brown University
- ➤ Nobel laureate Peter Howitt returned to Brown on Oct. 23 to celebrate his prize with former colleagues at the Faculty Club — reconnecting with friends and revisiting the East Side neighborhood where he once lived. Brown University
- ➤ Dean John N. Friedman of Brown’s Watson School said the new school will add more teachers, grow its research, and work with local groups to share ideas—plans that build on the strong base of the former Watson Institute; he also noted a public event featuring retired General Mark A. Milley is scheduled for Oct. 25. The school aims to serve as a hub for policy study and open dialogue as it launches its new mission. Brown University

- ➤ Rebecca Foster, CEO of VEIC, said energy efficiency is a proven way to reduce high energy bills and boost local jobs, and she argued that new investments in programs will help New England households save money and cut emissions. - ➤ Yeztugo, a new HIV prevention injection given every six months, is priced at $28,000 per treatment course and has raised concerns about its affordability. CVS Caremark has called on Gilead Sciences to lower the price—so that patients in our community can access effective, lower-cost treatment alternatives. The Boston Globe
- ➤ Providence residents will be able to turn in expired or unused medications at the Providence Public Safety Complex at 325 Washington Street on Saturday, October 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. City staff will hand out medication lock bags and disposal kits to help reduce overdose deaths. ABC 6
