- ➤ In Pawtucket last Sunday, the Elisha Project delivered 50,000 pounds of food and household items to 600 families—helping those at risk of losing SNAP benefits amid a government shutdown. ABC 6

- ➤ Rhode Island College opened its new cyber range this month to let cybersecurity students practice real cyber defense using live malware in a controlled network—Douglas S. Alexander and James R. Langevin said the facility bridges classroom theory with hands-on skills. The range, built with IBM support, is one of only three in the nation and will help students stay current as cyber threats evolve. The Boston Globe

- ➤ J. William Middendorf II, a former Navy secretary from Little Compton, died last week in Fall River at age 101 and is remembered for championing Electric Boat’s Quonset Point facility that created thousands of jobs for Rhode Islanders—his leadership helped turn the facility into a cornerstone of the local economy. US Senators Reed and Whitehouse recognized his legacy with a guided missile destroyer naming in 2023. The Boston Globe
- ➤ Crews finished demolishing the old stage at WaterPlace Park and construction is underway on a new permanent stage designed with waterproof flooring & ADA access and stainless steel railings that will be larger and higher for better viewing. 10 WJAR
- ➤ Rhode Island state Rep. David Morales, who is also a three-time wrestling champion and mayoral candidate, said he sees political debates growing more theatrical like a wrestling match. - ➤ On Monday, October 27th, RIDOH reprimanded licensed nursing assistant Carolyn Natalie LaFrance—Complaint #C25-0402—for taking a photo of a patient’s home without consent and texting it to her former employer. This was the fifth disciplinary action against a nursing assistant in the past 60 days and followed an incident on or about April 7th. Go Local Prov

- ➤ The Mount Hope section in Providence, once a long-time middle-class and historic Black neighborhood, is experiencing a sharp rise in home prices as the Auger House — a 1928 Tudor Revival cottage with original features — is listed at $1,050,000 compared to around $200,000 a decade ago.
