- ➤ The Rhode Island Department of Education is awarding $6.5 million in grants to 23 districts — including Providence Public Schools — to boost literacy through the RI Reads program. - ➤ Chief Judge Stacey Jernigan approved motions Friday morning to keep the two CharterCARE hospitals open for 60 days—giving Rhode Island time to secure a deal with Centurion or Prime Healthcare. - ➤ Flight cancellations occurred at T.F. Green International Airport on Nov. 7 after a nationwide FAA mandate led airlines to reduce service due to a government shutdown that required air traffic controllers to work without pay. Officials advised affected passengers to check with their carriers for updates — flights by American, United and Southwest were among those cut — as the situation remains fluid. - ➤ Federal flight restrictions began Friday to ease pressure on unpaid air traffic controllers, but T.F. Green International Airport was spared and remains under review.
