  • The Diocese of Providence announced two potential church mergers in Pawtucket. Holy Family Parish (combining St. Joseph and Our Lady of Consolation churches) would merge into St. John Paul II Parish and St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Parish would merge into St. John the Baptist Parish pending review by the Council of Priests and Bishop Bruce A. Lewandowski’s final approval.  10 WJAR

CULTURE NEWS

  • In Chepachet, local men shot Betty the Learned Elephant on May 25, 1826—leaving questions about whether the act was due to revenge or a bet. Glocester now marks Elephant Day with a memorial plaque to remember this unusual event.  The Providence Journal
  • Bravo unveiled a trailer for its new series Real Housewives of Rhode Island at Bravocon in Las Vegas— the show will focus on Rhode Islanders with deep family roots and debut in 2026.  ABC 6

  • Brown University named Keidy Palma Ramirez and Providence native Nicholas Sanzi Rhodes Scholars on November 15. They will begin their graduate studies at Oxford in October with funding covering all required expenses.  Brown University
