CULTURE NEWS

  • The Providence Journal features archived photos of old toy stores from a time when people used newspaper ads, catalogs and TV commercials to shop for Christmas gifts—showing names like Child World, Toys 'R' Us and KB Toys. SPORTS NEWS

  • URI, seeded number nine in the FCS playoffs, will host Central Connecticut State at 12 p.m. on Saturday on ESPN+ as the Rams try to build on a six-game winning streak. It is a rematch of last November’s playoff game that ended with a 21-17 win, and the team sees it as a chance to prove themselves further.  The Providence Journal
  • Bryant men's soccer recorded its first NCAA Tournament win on Nov 23 when Muslim Umar scored the only goal at Beirne Stadium. The Bulldogs will host Saint Louis on Nov 30—seeking to move to the next round.  The Providence Journal
  • On Sunday afternoon, the University of Rhode Island women’s basketball team beat No. 16 North Carolina State 68-63 at Reynolds Coliseum in Raleigh. Ines Debroise led the team with a steal and clutch free throws — a historic win that marks one of the finest victories in the program’s history.  The Providence Journal
  • Westerly won its 15th Division II title on November 23 with a 44-21 win over South Kingstown—quarterback Landon Husereau returned from a shoulder injury to lead the Bulldogs to their first title since 2001.  The Providence Journal
  • The Classical football team overcame a big deficit to beat Mt. Hope 40-28 in the Division III Super Bowl at Cranston Stadium. Key plays in the second half helped drive the comeback one play at a time—highlighting a season of hard work and perseverance.  The Providence Journal
  • On Saturday, Stefan Vaaks scored 15 points and hit two clutch 3-pointers to lead the Friars to a 77—65 win over Penn State at Mohegan Sun. Teammates Jason Edwards, Jaylin Sellers, and Oswin Erhunmwunse provided key support as Providence overcame a late push by the Nittany Lions.  The Providence Journal
