CRIME NEWS

  • Cranston police found 45-year-old Linda Delomba in the back of a parked car five days after she was reported missing and arrested her caretaker, Roberta Gerard, on charges of abuse and exploitation of an adult with severe impairment and obstruction— police say the investigation is still active.  ABC 6
  • Linda DaLomba, the Cranston Police Chief who was reported missing on Wednesday, was found safe in a parked car at the intersection of Pond Street and Station Street on March 23 — she was then taken to Rhode Island Hospital for evaluation.  10 WJAR

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Rhode Island’s oldest public high school — Classical High School — was founded in 1843 and still serves over 1,000 students today in Providence. The Southermost Schoolhouse in Portsmouth, built in 1725, remains the oldest standing schoolhouse in New England and is maintained by the Portsmouth Historical Society.  The Providence Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Attorney General Peter Neronha said that holding the contractors responsible for Washington Bridge problems will take time—trial may not begin until 2026 or 2027—and he noted concerns that Biden bridge funds might not be available if they are not obligated on time.  Rhode Island PBS
  • Providence lawmakers introduced House Bill 5503 that would require landlords to show a just cause to evict tenants or not renew leases—exempting small landlords—and limit rent increases to 4% annually or 1½ times the annual inflation change. Tenants testified that rising rents and unsafe housing conditions drove the need for this bill, which supporters say could help reduce evictions and homelessness.  The Providence Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Providence College's Friars learned their NCAA tournament seed—heading to Manchester to face defending champion Denver. The team is preparing hard—aiming to advance in the postseason.  The Providence Journal
  • Bryant men's basketball ended its season with a tough NCAA Tournament loss to Michigan State after a year of strong growth despite roster and staff changes. Coach Phil Martelli Jr. said the team will sustain its winning culture and prepare for a new 3,400-seat arena to boost future success.  The Providence Journal
  • Providence College men's hockey team will face defending champion Denver in the NCAA tournament at Southern New Hampshire University Arena in Manchester on Friday at 5:30 p.m.—the Friars are the No. 2 seed while Denver is the No. 3 seed.  The Providence Journal
